What is Kirk?
Kirk is an Austin-based e-store featuring a variety of 20th-century vintage furniture as well as a curated selection of some of the newest and most intriguing design-driven accessories.
What happened to your bricks-and-mortar store?
Kirk's downtown Austin location closed in October, 2009. Our business, particularly for vintage furniture, has predominantly taken place online and outside of the physical store location, so we made the decision to eliminate it and focus our resources on sourcing and selling a much wider selection of new and vintage pieces online.
What are your shipping policies?
We deliver accessory orders for free, with a $100 minimum purchase before tax, within a 20-mile radius of downtown Austin. We can pack and ship tabletop accessories for delivery anywhere in the world via FedEx Ground or, within the U.S., via USPS Priority Mail, and we can gift-wrap items upon request. We can arrange delivery of furniture items within a 50-mile radius of Austin, but we unfortunately cannot deliver furniture beyond that distance, nor do we deliver furniture ourselves. We strongly recommend using El Sol Logistics for Austin-area furniture delivery; they are one of the top short-distance delivery companies in the state, and most of Austin's better home furnishings stores use them as well. For furniture deliveries outside of the Austin area, we work with a number of reputable shipping companies that can coordinate delivery of both small and large shipments nationwide.
How much does furniture delivery cost?
El Sol charges a flat $85/hour fee, including at least two delivery personnel each trip; customers are responsible for paying El Sol's hourly fees, which are billed directly from El Sol (payment is C.O.D. by check or credit card). One hour minimum is required, and billing beyond one hour is done in quarter-hour increments. Cost for delivery outside of Central Texas varies widely depending on distance traveled and the size (weight & dimensions) of the piece. Typically prices are in the $150-$400 range, and the shipping price per piece drops considerably if multiple pieces are ordered at one time and shipped to the same address. To use one example: the shipping price for a pair of upholstered lounge chairs delivered to New York would be approximately $300.
